What to Expect
Getting Started
Beginning therapy starts with reaching out through the contact form, email at kelsey@couragecounselingmd.com , or by phone at 301-678-3953. From there, we can schedule a free 15-minute consultation upon request to briefly discuss what brings you to therapy, answer any questions you may have, and explore whether our practice may be a good fit for your needs. We are also happy to answer any questions via email prior to scheduling.
Your First Session
The first session focuses on getting to know you and understanding what brings you to therapy. We will discuss your current concerns, relevant history, and your hopes for therapy. The session also provides you the opportunity to ask questions and begin collaboration on a plan for treatment that best fits your needs.
The Therapy Process
Therapy is a collaborative process that provides space to explore thoughts, emotions, and experiences while developing tools and strategies to navigate challenges and support meaningful change. When appropriate, therapy may incorporate approaches such as Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT), Exposure and Response Prevention (ERP), Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), Dialectical Behavior Therapy skills, Person-Centered Therapy, and integrative therapeutic methods.
